Tea Leaf Characteristics
Our sun-dried black tea leaves come from trees that are 300 years old and up. These types of trees are often rare and heavily sought after in China, offering a truly unique drinking experience. The black tea leaves are of the large variety, flexible, twisted and pliable when wet. The sweetness lingers longer compared to the younger plantation tree. Due to the deep roots from these ancient trees, the leaves will also carry more minerals and nutrient content, also holding a unique taste due to the regions rich soil.
Our black tea leaves are spring picked. During spring, with its ancient tea tree leaves nourished by the winter, you’ll find more young buds and a lower bud to leaf ratio, resulting in richer and sweeter flavors. It is the best season for black tea leaves among the three harvests of the year—spring, summer, and autumn.
The Blang people have a deep reverence for nature and it shows in their sun-dried black tea processing. The sun-dried method has many advantages including better preservation of natural flavors, nutrients, reduced processing and chemical exposure. When you purchase Tea Song black tea, you’ll notice some unique flavor profiles only found in Jingmai Mountain sun-dried processes. As a result this tea will retain its flavor a lot longer than other black teas when stored correctly, and preserve it’s flavor a lot longer!
